When it comes to selecting actual pieces of wedding music and songs, look through CDs at music shops or libraries for ideas, search on the internet for ideas and trends, listen to different radio stations that play the type of music you might want and, again, ask your officiant or other wedding suppliers for suggestions.
Have a blast!
Sound bites
* When making your music selection, consider the size, style and facilities of your venue. For example, if you’re getting married in a small church, a large band isn’t the best choice; and having harp music play at your beach ceremony will be wasted as the sound will drift upwards.
* Listen carefully to the lyrics of any songs you’re contemplating to check they’re appropriate.
* Ask friends and family with musical talent to perform.
* Discuss your ceremony music choices with our officiant to ensure they’re appropriate and in line with any policies the venue may have. Also advise your reception venue of your music choice. Noise restrictions may rule out some options.
* Specify the songs you absolutely don’t want to hear, as well as the ones you do, and whether they should take requests from guests.
* If a live band is playing at your reception, make sure the breaks are covered. Provide a CD, or ask your band if they have something suitable.
* If you decide to organise your own music by hiring a sound system or using your own to play CDs, delegate the responsibility to someone reliable and techno savvy.
* You can ask the DJ or member of the band at your reception to make announcements for the commencement of dinner, the cutting of the cake, and the departure of the bride and groom.
